# Contributing

KnownTrade is an openly edited directory: anyone can propose a new entry or an edit, and a reviewer decides what goes live. Nothing you submit is published until it is accepted.

## Before you start

- Read the [entry guidelines](/entry-guidelines) — they define what belongs in the directory and how an entry should be written.
- Contributions are public and permanent. Your email is recorded as the author in the page's edit history, which is part of the openly licensed dataset.

Go to [`/console`](/console/signin) and sign in with your email. You'll get a one-time link — no password.

## Propose an entry or an edit

**In the browser.** Open any page and use "Edit this page" to propose a change, or use [`/console/new`](/console/new) to create a new entry. The first line of the body must be the entry's title as a level-1 heading (`# Acme Textiles`) — the URL slug is derived from it.

**From an AI agent (MCP).** Connect to the MCP endpoint at [`/mcp`](/mcp) and use the `create_page`, `propose_edit`, and `translate_page` tools. They open the same review requests as the web forms.

Either way, your change is saved as a pending request. Track it at [`/console/my-requests`](/console/my-requests).

## Review

An editor reviews each request and accepts or rejects it, optionally with a note. Accepted changes go live immediately and enter the page's public history. Rejected requests stay visible to you with the reason.

## Translations

Entries are bilingual. If a page exists in one language but not the other, you can propose a translation — the new language gets its own slug derived from the translated title. Keep the facts identical across languages.

## About these policy pages

The site's policy pages — this guide, the [entry guidelines](/entry-guidelines), and the [privacy policy](/privacy) — are themselves entries. As operator-governed pages they can only be edited by the editor team, and changes to them are approved by an admin.
